»Mensch ärgere Dich nicht« is perhaps the definitive classic among German parlour games. The board game was invented by Josef Friedrich Schmidt in the winter of 1907/08 and achieved great popularity during the First World War.
By 1920, a million copies had already been sold by its inventor’s company. Almost unchanged, the game continues to be marketed successfully by Schmidt Spiele GmbH. More than 70 million games have been sold to date. The programme around this brand has today been extended by licensed products from a playmat to a game for mobile phones, and has lost nothing of its popularity.
